Andrew, I was so moved by this absolutely, exceptional piece of introspection!! You're not only writing to learn -- you're also writing to teach! As a "woman of a certain age," born and raised in the Deep South, I'm pretty familiar with a lot of what you wrote as it relates to Blacks (particularly the Gullah-Geechie people of SC & GA) and white settler culture which, in many ways, mirror that of the Native American experience (i.e. farming; loss of the land, language & culture; forced sterilization of women, etc.).
But, back in 2013 though, I wrote a series of articles about the "Baby Veronica" case in Charleston, SC while I was living back home for awhile which involved a rich, white couple who for all intents and purposes, took this Native American child from her biological father with the help of the courts in both SC and OK which speaks to a lot of what you've written here. Check out the series if you have a chance (no need to tell you how it all ended I'm sure):

I think you're well on your way to being "complicit in truth and justice" by acknowledging your truths with the aim of making some meaningful change in this society. Keep up the great work!
