Angela Davis, on campus protests, repression, the purpose of education — and Palestine
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” — The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified Dec., 15, 1791.
Given what’s happening in these “alleged” United States of America on college campuses these days, it’s obvious that whole First Amendment thing was only meant to be window-dressing.
Worse yet, universities and government officials in states where students are protesting, have called in their respective jack-booted thugs to “clear out and/or punish” the protesters who are doing exactly what that window-dressing said they could. And no one speaks to those facts better, than one of my favorite revolutionaries — Sister Angela Davis:
And even today, she’s still speaking her truth — this time, on Palestine:
