Crazy to come across this post! I LOVE, "In the Heat of the Night," (watchin' it right now as a matter of fact!) and I always wondered to the husband and myself, WHY Caroll O'Connor went from Archie Bunker to Bill Gillespie. Is there an interview somewhere that explains it?
