Darlin', thank you so much for this post. It made "my soul shake." I've been interracially married for 44 years, I felt EVERY.DAMNED.WORD.YOU.WROTE.

I live, and have lived, in TX alternately, for a large part of our military careers years (back here now permanently!). Both born and raised on the East Coast (him from NY & me from SC), so we did that cross-country drive more often than I can count. When the EJI opened its memorial in 2018: https://legacysites.eji.org/about/ I told the husband about it and how I wanted to see it one day. The husband and I were, this time, driving to TX after he retired for the last time in Tampa and he said, "Let's go see it!" Much as I wanted to, I didn't think I could do it with him at my side. I know, it sounds crazy, but I couldn't. It was kinda like how I abso-f*ckinlutely HATE white folk tryin' to share our DAP, ALWAYS STEALIN' our culture, cuz they ain't got one of their own. They don't really get how deeply that shit means to us (IDGAF about Obama & Michelle doing it at his inauguration, that's OUR SHIT!).

Maybe one day. The fact that he WANTS TO matters immensely. That I'm not ready for it matters too. I've got grand babies now, so it'll happen -- because they HAVE to know from whence they came.

Thanks for this post, Darlin...
