Great piece, Darlin'! I get why those faith leaders used that method. As you say, it was a strategic plan to show the absolute barbarity of white folk -- and it worked. But as you say above and as Fannie Lou Hamer once said, "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired" -- and today, I'm NOT the one!
