Great piece, John and thanks for the walk down memory lane! I came of age in the 70s as well (graduated high school in '74) and remember all of this, including the "soft bigotry," though it didn't feel so soft for me in SC. And yes, thanks to tRump, it's REALLY not so soft anymore!
