I am jealous as HAYELL!!!

Mr. James Baldwin, "Jimmy" as I sometimes call him when he's REALLY walkin' around in my head (I'm old, I'm sure his spirit doesn't mind!) -- is my literary hero and as such, I sure wish your journey'd been mine!!

I was fortunate enough to go to a public high school in South Carolina, staffed by what is now referred to as the "New Negroes" who'd graduated college and came back home, bent on teaching us young, Black folk about the pearls of our heritage that white America tried to tarnish. And I fell in love with his lyrical, lethal, critically thought-out expressions of truth. I am forever grateful for that.

"As we do..." -- Always was, and I'd venture to guess AND hope, always WILL BE our "conversations," forever sharing that cellular memory thing we, of the deep melanin need to protect one another and get by, Brother! I see it, passed down from me, in my own grown sons today and I LOVE IT!!
