I feel the same way about it, Thelma. I absolutely HATE this time of year because all they are about are the "very American, very indulgent, very consuming." While I get we've been thoroughly conditioned to love it, I just dread this time of year, particularly for those three reasons. I just got through telling the husband that I don't want to be anywhere near home this time next year!
Sure, like your Dad, the husband and I'll be cooking the elaborate meals for Thanksgiving and Xmas, spending money on presents for the grandkids (they already know, WE are the Clauses, not that white couple American propaganda keeps pushing on them. Hell, just like with the sons when they were small, when we put up the tree for Xmas, Santa's white and Mrs. Claus is Black just so they don't get it twisted!).
They are wearin' me the hell out with all the commercials to buy shit, especially given what folk have gone through in the last couple of years due to Covid -- but they don't give a shit about that. I hate the bullshit, "We're all in this together," fake celebration' asses. Trust me, you ain't no weirdo, Thelma -- I'm already depleted! I'm already saving my pennies to plan another trip for the whole family somewhere meaningful this time next year.
Take care of yourself, Darlin' and spend these days like you want!
