I have to say I disagree with that whole "respectability politics" part of that up there, Brother. I happen to know plenty young folk, who may wake up in the morning smoking a blunt with their pants saggin', who're doin' the damned thing, in their careers, owning a business, owning their own homes and NOT going to jail where the levers are controlled by white and white-adjacent gatekeepers. As far as the "never opening a book" part, given all the book-banning and anti-AP African American Studies/DEI movements going on in this country, I can understand why they seek information elsewhere (and trust me, they do), SO THAT Bibbly-Bob doesn't get them f*cked up. Real shit.
