I know that's right!! Having grown up in Charleston, SC, which at one time had a Black majority population, I was surrounded by our stories of rebellion, as well as oral histories from family and friends . I went to a segregated Catholic school with Black nuns who taught us nothing about ourselves -- only about white Jesus, but once in high school, we were immersed in US by a cadre of young, "New Black" teachers who'd studied our history and made sure we knew the contributions we'd made, not only to the city and country, but to the world. Like your mother, I made sure to pass that knowledge on to my sons, their friends and now my grandchildren. As you said, DeSantis can't stop us!!
