I was 12, living in Charleston, SC when Dr. King was assassinated, Misty. Not only do I remember my family's tears, but my own. He, Coretta and Ralph Abernathy all came to SC to support the the Black hospital workers striking for better wages against the Medical University of SC (MUSC) Hospital (where my Mama's best friend, Miss Mary Moultrie and others worked. They met every weekend as the "Dreamers Social Club" where they all paid dues, played "Tunk," and at the end of the year they went on a trip across the U.S. -- mainly to baseball games, which they all loved!πŸ˜„!): https://discoversouthcarolina.com/articles/charleston-hospital-workers-strike-for-fair-wages

How far have we come? Not very, as you stated. As I see it, we're going backward with the quickness.

Great piece, Daughter!!!
