I'm married to a society-identified white guy who, as Mr. James Baldwin said, "BECAME WHITE" when his people came over here to America ON THE BOAT, versus my people coming IN THE BOAT. My oldest had a Facebook back and forth with his uncle about exactly this (let's just say, the brother took a while to come around to this now, 42 year marriage), because a niece had her destination wedding on a plantation in my home town in SC and we all refused to go. It wasn't pretty, but I was so damned proud of my husband and sons who let them know how in-fu*kin'-appropriate it was for all of us.

And while I refuse to enter into the "Oppression Olympics" in which some folk like to engage, -- I AM SAYING the prolonged, horrific, barbaric treatment of my people deserves if not at least, more compassion and recognition -- and REPARATIONS for as long as it did and continues to go on.

One of my beautifully-- writing, deeply conscious, Daughters has written a post that hopefully, puts those thoughts into stark relief: @Laura M. Quainoo's post on the Nama/Herrero genocide OUGHT to make us think more of why we matter to our OWN DAMNED SELVES rather than caping for white folk and those who became white:
