“Immigration for me, but not for thee”

Governors Abbott and DeSantis represent some of the lowest inhumanity has to offer (“some,” since so many of them exist!!)

“Statue of Liberty or how the rest of the world sees America” Postcard 2004 — Leon Kuhn

All the “protecting our borders from illegals” rabble-rousing by the afore-mentioned governors, definitely demonstrates the truth of the late, Leon Kuhn’s excellent piece of political protest above. It all keeps reminding me the Statue of Liberty will always mean different things to different people.

To those whose white ancestors colonized an already-occupied America, or later sailed into Ellis Island on the boat, as well as those white-adjacent others, who flew, or were flown here (Ukrainians) on the wings of either their “dolla-dolla bills y’all,” or ours — it’s always meant “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” — for them.

But to those of us of a decidedly darker hue, brought here against our will in the boat, or who’ve come on makeshift boats and/or rafts, or trudged through many miles of unbelievably difficult terrain, it’s come to mean “death, incarceration and the pursuit of mere survival” — for us.

White hate continues to be despicably discriminatory — from Haitians rounded up by men on horseback wielding reins like whips, to Mexican and Central American immigrants locked in cages
