They’re “ancestors” for a reason, Fam. Their lived experiences continue to teach, or SHOULD have at least, TAUGHT us not only from whence we came, but also guided us to our futures. Audre Lorde knew, way back when, what time it was. She knew about Barack and Michelle. She knew about Joe and Kamala. She knew about where we were headed — long before most of us took a breath.
Lorde was proud of our high-fives and our dap (or pound, for you who remember that). She knew it was “OF US,” and why (unlike the hordes of white folk who’ve no idea how much EACH means to us), cultural misappropriation reigns as usual (sell-out, Henry Louis Gates is working on a dictionary to lay all our shit out there for white folk to know). He obviously doesn’t GET, the how and why, the Gullah-Geechie culture…
