Thanks for this, Clare. I'm going through some of this shit right now with my 7TH PCM, a young white woman whom I've never met and who's obviously not dealt with women going through menopause. She's arrogant, dismissive and wields her white privilege as a cudgel to look down her nose at me because I choose to drink a few glasses of wine to sleep. I told her, if she'd prescribe the sleep medication I had been taking for years -- I wouldn't NEED to drink a few glasses of wine to fuck*n' sleep!! She's come up with all the excuses why she won't prescribe a sleep medication for me that I've taken for years because of it. Not only wouldn't she prescribe that Rx, she wouldn't prescribe anything else to deal with my menopausal insomnia -- one of the only causes on a list of causes given to me by the hospital, of a recent seizure I had, that actually applied to me, far as I can see! Currently researching a new PCM who's Black AND female. Maybe she'll get it.
