It takes this old broad back to segregated SC where my Black high school English teacher exposed me to the power and beauty of Black writing in the persons of Richard, Wright, Claude McKay, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Mr. James Baldwin (whose "Notes of a Native Son" had its own voice about Bigger Thomas!) and "Sister Outsider," Audre Lord to name a few.
You mentioned the "Lindy Hop" in your piece which triggered another beautiful memory I had later in life, when I worked for a small paper in Key West and actually (before she died) met and spent time with Norma Miller, the absolute Queen of Lindy Hop! It was fantastic!
