Whew!!! What a poignant piece of writing this is John β€” don't know how I missed this one!! The husband and I (69 & 67 respectively), JUST had this conversation this past week after having my daughter-in-law's (my eldest son's wife) parents, who were visiting from Michigan, over for dinner. I took two beautiful pictures β€” one of three generations of women in her family (her, her mother and her daughter), and one, of three generations of men in our family (my husband, my two sons and my youngest son's son) and it was a beautiful moment for all of us.

After they left, we talked about all of the things you wrote about here! My husband is twice-retired and an avid golfer and way more healthy than I, as he still walks the entire 18 holes while I rarely walk anywhere anymore. We talked about aging and what our future's gonna look like, not only to us, but to them. Deep conversations were had, filled with the kind of love and memories you've so beautifully and painfully shared here. Thanks for telling the story of all our lives so clearly and succinctly!
