While I've got many issues with Morgan Freeman, I gotta disagree with you here, Dwayne. I'm a Black American of African descent, which is how I always describe myself because I was born and raised in America, not Africa and I have just as much claim to this country as anybody else so conceived. As much as both Malcolm and Dr. Clarke are my GO-TOs for education on from whence we came, as well as how we exist in these not-United States, this is my country of origin. Unfortunately, I and many others here know no other (though I'm constantly digging to find out because it's important to understand who all went into the making of me). Trust me, there's no self-hatred in my description of myself here, Brother. Rather, it is a hard-fought description of self-determination in this racist country which continuously tries to label my people.
Interestingly, I just read this piece from TB Obwoge: https://tbhenry.medium.com/south-sudan-article-calls-children-niggers-as-it-accuses-them-of-crime-1e9e4406be8a
Seems some Africans, instead of seeing us as a part of them, have chosen to pick up on what the racists in this country have chosen to label us.
