My grandmother who farmed her land on the island in SC until she died at 93 used the "Three Sisters" system (though I didn't know what it was called then) to produce food for our entire family, on the island and in the city because she "jarred" her harvest and dispensed it to all her children and grandchildren. We might've been poor, but we sure as hayell weren't hungry!

When we took our sons to The Gambia, they were blessed to meet a man from the Dogon people of Mali who sat them down and told them about "Sirius." It's something they still talk about to this day!

Everything you wrote about is why our children need to know "from whence they came" as James Baldwin wrote.
